I’m Emma Welsby
Business owner. Samaritan. Self development nerd. Musician/composer.
I began life as a professional drummer! After a very interesting career as a musician life moved on and I fell into digital marketing. I’ve worked in fancy agencies in fancy buildings working for fancy clients and it didn’t take a genius for me to tot up how much money I was being paid vs. what I made for the company. I always had my eye on the target – to have my own company.
As destiny would have it, I met someone who had his head screwed on for business. We went on this ridiculous journey whereby I marketed his business online and it got bigger, and bigger, and bigger until it became the largest player in one of the most competitive industries online. Off the back of this, I started my own digital marketing business. Since then I have grown business after business in different industries that got to the point of being sold, or kept to be grown further.
In my personal life I have a partner and two kids that I do life with.
The Self Development Piece
I was going round Europe on a motorbike with my laptop in my bag running my business from wherever I stopped. I was living a life that was seemingly vomit worthy for how good the setup was, but my personal life was A MESS. I was being pushed to my limit and I got to the point where I was angry enough to make change.
THE SHADOW WORK COURSE
I went back to the UK, got on another plane and went to the U.S and did one heavy, heavy course in self development. It was a hefty dose of shadow work. It was so profound for me I came home and did all the online groups that this organisation had to offer. I made the changes that I had to make to change my life and I wasn’t the same again (in a good way!).
The Business Coach/Mentor Piece
As it turns out, I’ve been business coaching and mentoring for years. As I’ve been been helping my clients to grow their businesses for years through my digital marketing business, I’ve not only been helping them with the actual digital marketing, some of them I’ve been keeping their head in the right head space to get there.
I’ve had remarkable experiences whereby I’ve made someone in a certain industry a household brand, and then I’ve had competitors working in the same industry come to me to help them do the same and guess what? I absolutely couldn’t get them there. Despite them speaking to the person that had already hit their future goal for another business, their heads and their business were so all over the place that I couldn’t get them there. Sometimes it was lack of patience because of frustrations of old were spilling into the now, sometimes it was that their business under the hood was actually a mess, sometimes it was because they were running their business from a position of emotion rather than data. It was just mindblowing to see this all play out.
I’ve had hard conversations with business owners, and I’ve sometimes sent people away because their head game was atrocious. So with business coaching and mentoring I love to help people get throught the sludge to get things sorted out.
SAMARITANS
Through training with the Samaritans and actively being one, it has given me some incredible listening skills, and can help me to guide someone through their own thoughts. Through this I have learnt two huge things. 1) No-one’s life is how it looks from the outside. 2) You can learn far more by listening than you can by talking. Whilst I won’t be having quite these type of conversations (although if it goes there then ok!) it has given me tremendous transferable skills in regards to listening and questioning.
ENNEAGRAM
The Ennegram has also been a huge piece in my life. Personality typing systems used to make me shudder. I wouldn’t be put ‘in a box’ – hell I was too unique. I have since realised that it helps you get the hell out of the box to become a healthier version of myself. I’m a huge advocate of this and can’t wait to share this. Amanda who does The Welsby Shift with me is next level with her deep knowledge of the Enneagram and it just made complete since for us to do this project together.
ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS MENTORING
Whilst business mentoring is unregulated, I have completed a course at the association of business mentoring.
So with all this business experience and life experience it seems stupid not to share it with you right?
